What Must I Do To Become a Christian?
1. Hear the Word of God. “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”(Romans 10:17).
2. Believe on Jesus Christ as the Son of God. “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.” (Mark 16:16).
3. Repent of our sins (the word “repent” means to ‘turn away from sin’ or ‘to change our direction from serving sin to serving God’). “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins,” (Acts 2:38; Luke 13:3,5).
4. Confess our faith in Jesus Christ as the Son of God (putting our faith into words). “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” (Romans 10:9; Matthew 10:32,33).
5. Be Baptized for the forgiveness of sins. “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.” (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38; 1 Peter 3:21).
Romans 6:4 and Colossians 2:12 teach that baptism is burial in water.
6. Be Faithful as a Christian. “Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.” (Revelation 2:10).
As we study the New Testament we find that everyone obeyed the gospel in the same manner after the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. The book of Acts gives a number of examples of conversion, such as chapters 2, 8, 10, 16. If we do the same thing today that these people were commanded to do then we will be the same thing that they were - Christians.
If you would like to study the Bible in your home, David or one of our other men will be happy to arrange a time at your convenience. If you would like to study the Bible by mail we have several Bible Correspondence Courses available (these are free for the asking). We also have a series of five lessons (DVD) that give a great overview of the Bible including God's plan of salvation.
