Are You Involved?
David A. Bass
If the Lord’s church is to be strong spiritually and numerically, EVERY member needs to be involved in the Lord’s work! An organized program of personal work such as our Visitation/Work Program is one such opportunity. The advantage of a program such as this is that the we can know that the Lord’s work is being done and that no one is being overlooked (needy, unfaithful, discouraged, etc.). There are many advantages of being a part of our Visitation/Work Program.
One benefit of this program is FELLOWSHIP! One team will meet each week (Team One will meet the first Sunday night; Team Two will meet the second Sunday night) in someone’s home for a meeting and this will include food and fellowship. Because our groups are small, it is a wonderful opportunity to get to know one another better and to encourage one another. The Bible says, “Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another (‘build each other up’ - ASV), even as also ye do” (1 Thessalonians 5:11). As brethren we need to know one another better in order to grow in our love and appreciation for one another.
GETTING THE WORK DONE is another asset of our Visitation/Work Program. Too often we have good intentions about visiting, teaching, etc., but we procrastinate and talk about what needs to be done and often we don’t get “around to it.” This program reminds us of the great work before as Christians, children of God. Those on “our team” can help us and encourage us to be busy doing the Lord’s work. Remember Jesus said, “I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work” (John 9:4). The responsibility to “teach all nations” (Matthew 28:18) applies to every child of God! “Visiting the fatherless and widows” (James 1:27) is the obligation of every Christian! According to Matthew 25:31-46 everyone is going to be judged by the amount of “Christian service” that we performed. If we are to be a true “disciple” and “glorify God” we must bring forth fruit. Jesus said, “Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples” (John 15:8).
RESULTS will also be seen in our Christian family because of our labors! With God’s help we will see the wayward restored; newcomers visiting with us; new opportunities for Bible studies and for strengthening the weak and discouraged. Through this program our cooperating together will bring wonderful results to the Lord’s church at Lay Lake! Like Paul we can say, “I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase” (1 Corinthians 3:6). By working together we can and will continue to BUILD A STRONG CHURCH!
A STRONG CHURCH DEPENDS ON
YOU!
