What Does the 21st Century Church Need?
David A, Bass
1) Students of God’s word. 2 Timothy 2:15; 1 Cor. 3:1-3; Heb. 5:12-14; 1 Peter 2:2 “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby.” - (Christians who are maturing spiritually)!
2) Preachers who speak “sound doctrine” (Titus 2:1) and “speak as the oracles of God" (1 Peter 4:11). The church needs gospel preachers who are willing to "reprove, rebuke and exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine" (2 Timothy 4:2).
3) Godly leaders with backbone who will hold "fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers" (Titus 1:9).
4) Brethren who “love one another.” (1 John 3:11-23).
5) Faithful Christians who respect the authority of the Scriptures in all things. Colossians 3:17 “And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.” ;2 Timothy 3:16,17).
6) Christians who are zealous in carrying the “good news” to a lost world. Jesus said, “Go into all the world and preach thegospel [good news] to every creature.” Mark 16:15
7) Those who are “spiritually minded. . . restoring the erring” (Galatians 6:1).
8) Each Christian working to develop “the mind of Christ” (1 Corinthians 2:16).
9) Hardworking Christians who are "seeking the kingdom first" (Matthew 6:33) and who desire to maintain the purity of the church (Ephesians 5:25-27).
10) Christians who “forgive one another.” (Colossians 3:13)
The Lord Called First
A call came on Sunday morning... “Tell mother not to go to church this morning, we are coming.” But mother went right on to church. The daughter came and was furious about it, saying, “I called and told you I was coming and you went to church anyway.” The mother replied: “I’m sorry dear, but the Lord had already called.”
Do you use company as an excuse for not attending the services of the Lord? DON’T FORGET WHO CALLED FIRST! “But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness. . .” (Matthew 6:33).
