Thanks Dad
David A. Bass
Fathers Day! There is no way to adequately say thanks to our fathers. As we grew up they were educating us in every facet of life, every day. Our godly fathers taught us what was truly important; such as putting the kingdom of God first…always (Matthew 6:33). Thanks for instilling in us a desire to go to heaven, more than anything else.
Thanks dad for not letting your hobbies, your friends, your job come before the Lord. You didn’t send us to church, you led the way there. We knew where we would be every Sunday morning, Sunday evening and Wednesday night. You prayed with us and for us, and taught us how to do it ourselves. We knew your sincerity when you said, “I’m praying for you.”
Thanks dad for teaching us even as you taught others- through Bible studies, discussions, serving in worship. We learned from you as you went (and even took us sometimes) to the nursing homes and the homes of shut-ins to visit elderly.
Thanks dad for teaching us what it means to love your spouse (Ephesians 5:25). You taught us by caring for Mom when she was sick and by helping with the chores around the house and letting us see you do them. You instructed us about putting your spouse and children above your own needs.
Thanks dad for teaching us what a home should be and made us want to pattern ours after yours. Because of your example your sons wanted to be like you and your daughters wanted to find a husband like Dad. You taught us to love our children, your grandchildren, by the way you loved us and by the time you took and the care you showed. Thanks for paying attention to the details and being concerned about the things that concerned us.
Thanks dad for teaching us about being good neighbors and citizens. As we grew up we saw you helping the elderly widow from church needed your help. You gave blood, helped rebuild a friend’s house and took folks to the doctor.
You taught us about giving to good causes and helping those in need.. We saw you give to the Lord and His church each Sunday and you taught us that “giving to the Lord” is the first thing budgeted.
Thanks dad for everything!!! Happy Father’s Day!
