Strange, But I Have Never Known. . .
Roy Lanier, Jr.
. . . A Christian to be strengthened by recreation during the worship hour;
. . . A farmer to fail because he refused to plow during worship hours on Sunday and Wednesday;
. . . A businessman to lose his business by closing on Sunday;
. . . A Christian too tired to go to work on Monday like he was too tired to worship the Sunday night before;
. . . A disciple made better because he stayed away from worship when he did not like someone else worshiping there;
. . . Parents to instill spiritual values in children by putting them to bed early on Sunday and Wednesday nights so they will not be too tired to go to school the next day;
. . . A dedicated Bible student who stayed home and studied because there are too many hypocrites in church;
. . . A wife or husband to convert a mate by compromising worship times to go hunting, fishing, or traveling;
. . . A soul-winner who fished on the lakes or put on the greens while saints were at worship;
. . . Church to drive away truth-seekers from Christ by godly discipline;
. . . A committed Christian to neglect worship privileges;
. . . A Christian who does not give his contribution as he should because he does not agree with the elders..
It is strange, isn’t it: “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matt. 6:33).
Which Shall it be... A Crown or a Smile?
M. B. Boren
In nearly 43 years of teaching, I have encountered many, many professional Christians with serious disposition and attitude problems...from the outright grouchy and cantankerous, to simply unhappy and glum. Never can one reconcile such with what the Bible teaches.
“Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, ye righteous: and shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart” (Psa. 32:11).
“And my soul shall be joyful in the Lord: it shall rejoice in his salvation” (Psa. 35:9).
“But let the righteous be glad; let them rejoice before God: yea, let them exceedingly rejoice” (Psa. 68:3).
“Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice” (Phil. 4:4).
Though we’ve not seen Jesus Christ with our eyes, yet we believe in Him, and we are to “rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:” (1 Pet. 1:8).
The above are but a few of the scriptures that could be cited, teaching plainly that Christians are to be genuinely happy people. Therefore, for a brother or sister to go around with a sour look on his or her face, and with a grumpy and combative disposition is to commit sin! This, then, is a serious matter and could well be the causative factor of some precious soul being lost!
